Generative AI Policy
The International Journal of Multidisciplinary Studies in Higher Education (IJMSHE) recognizes the growing presence of generative AI tools in academic research. When used responsibly and transparently, these tools—including ChatGPT, GPT-4, Bard, and similar technologies—can enhance research productivity and support knowledge advancement.
Guidelines for Authors
If generative AI tools have been used in any part of the manuscript preparation, authors must:
- Clearly identify any AI-generated content within the manuscript.
- Acknowledge the use of generative AI tools in the Acknowledgments section.
- Ensure that all AI-assisted content is carefully reviewed, verified, and edited for accuracy, originality, and academic integrity.
Generative AI tools must not be credited as authors under any circumstances, as they cannot take responsibility for the content.
Submissions that do not disclose the use of generative AI tools may be rejected. In some cases, authors may be required to provide additional details regarding the use of AI tools in the Methods section.
For published articles, corrective action (e.g., correction or retraction) may be taken if the use of generative AI tools was not properly disclosed.
Guidelines for Reviewers and Editors
Peer reviewers and editors should not use generative AI tools to create their assessments or reviews. This is due to risks including:
- Breaches of confidentiality
- Superficial or non-specific feedback
- Potential bias
- Hidden prompts or undisclosed inputs
- Inaccurate or fabricated information (e.g., false references)
Limited use of generative AI tools for language editing or rewriting may be acceptable, provided that such use is disclosed and does not compromise the integrity or confidentiality of the review process.
Transparency and Accountability
All parties involved in the publication process are expected to maintain transparency regarding the use of generative AI tools. The journal reserves the right to request clarification or additional information regarding AI use at any stage of the review or publication process.
Policy Development
This policy will continue to evolve as the journal works with editorial partners and the academic community to better understand the implications of generative AI in scholarly publishing. Authors and reviewers are encouraged to refer to this page for updates.
Authors are also encouraged to consult recommendations from the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) regarding the responsible use of generative AI tools in scholarly manuscripts.
Target Readership (place in the About the Journal)
The journal is intended for a diverse and interdisciplinary audience engaged in scholarly inquiry, policy development, and professional practice. Its primary readership includes:
1. Researchers and Academics
Faculty members, research scholars, and graduate students across disciplines who are interested in advancing theoretical, empirical, and applied research.
2. Higher Education Professionals
University administrators, program coordinators, and academic leaders seeking evidence-based insights to inform institutional development, curriculum design, and policy implementation.
3. Practitioners and Industry Professionals
Professionals who apply research findings in practical settings and are interested in innovative approaches, best practices, and emerging trends relevant to their fields.
4. Policymakers and Educational Leaders
Individuals involved in policy formulation and educational governance who rely on credible research to guide decision-making and strategic planning.
5. Interdisciplinary Scholars
Readers interested in multidisciplinary perspectives that integrate knowledge across fields to address complex social, educational, and global challenges.
The journal welcomes contributions that are accessible to a broad academic audience while maintaining scholarly rigor. Articles should aim to provide clear implications for research, policy, and practice.
Types of Manuscripts Considered for Publication
The journal publishes high-quality, original scholarly works that make significant contributions to multidisciplinary research and higher education. Submissions must align with the journal’s aims and scope and demonstrate academic rigor, clarity, and relevance.
1. Research Articles
Research Articles present original empirical or theoretical investigations. These manuscripts should include a clear research problem, a review of related literature, a methodology section, results, a discussion, and conclusions. Studies may employ qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods approaches.
All Research Articles must report original findings that have not been previously published and are not under consideration elsewhere.
2. Systematic Reviews
Systematic Reviews synthesize existing research using a structured and transparent methodology. These manuscripts must clearly describe the review protocol, inclusion and exclusion criteria, search strategy, data extraction process, and analytical framework.
No Preprint Policy
The journal does not accept manuscripts that have been previously posted or published as preprints in any public repository or online platform. Submission to the journal implies that the work has not been publicly disseminated in preprint form.
