Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming education by influencing instruction, leadership, and administrative processes, making AI literacy essential for school leaders and teachers. This study assessed the Meta AI literacy of school heads and teachers in selected public elementary schools in the Schools Division Office of Tacurong City using a convergent parallel mixed methods design. Quantitative data measured seven dimensions of Meta AI literacy, while qualitative interviews explored participants’ experiences, perceptions, and challenges. Findings indicated generally high levels of Meta AI literacy, supported by qualitative themes on AI awareness, educational applications, ethical concerns, integration challenges, and the need for continuous professional development. Comparative analyses revealed differences across selected socio-demographic groups, and the integration of findings demonstrated strong alignment between reported competencies and lived experiences. The study concludes that although participants exhibit favorable AI literacy, continued capacity-building, ethical AI training, and institutional support are needed to strengthen responsible AI integration in Philippine basic education.
