A Multiple Case Study on the Work-Life Journey of Digital Nomads in Davao Region
Main Article Content
Abstract
This qualitative multiple case study aimed to explore the experiences and coping strategies of five digital nomads working in the Davao Region. The participants, engaged in various professions including freelancing, online entrepreneurship, digital content creation, remote employment, and online teaching. They were chosen through maximum variation sampling. The experiences and coping strategies of the five cases were examined using in-depth Interviews. Triangulation of the gathered data was done in each case by interviewing their family members and workmates. It was analyzed using thematic analysis resulting to six emergent themes on the experiences of digital nomads: organizing work schedules and routines, memorable work-life moments, digital infrastructure and connectivity, lifestyle benefits, challenges encountered, cultural integration, and networking and community building. The emergent coping strategies included the connectivity and continuity, discipline and adaptability, use of digital tools and organizational systems, self-care and work-life balance, sustaining motivation and personal drive, and reliance on social and professional support systems. The five cases shared similarities in maintaining productivity, resilience, and motivation while differing in specific coping approaches based on work type and personal preference.
