A Multiple Case Study on the Entrepreneurial Resilience of People-Based Service Providers in the Municipality of Compostela

Abstract
This study explored the entrepreneurial resilience of people-based service providers in the Municipality of Compostela, Davao de Oro, focusing on their lived experiences, challenges, and coping strategies. Guided by the Dynamic Capabilities Theory, the research employed a qualitative multiple case study design involving five participants, a tailor, event organizer, freelance nail technician, barber, and makeup artist. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and triangulated with informant insights to ensure credibility. Using thematic analysis, the study identified patterns that reflected how entrepreneurs adapted and persevered amid crises. Findings revealed that resilience among people-based service providers was anchored in persistence, adaptability, and motivation rooted in family responsibility. Faith, optimism, and inner strength sustained them through hardships, while resourcefulness and community support played vital roles in recovery from setbacks such as fires, typhoons, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The participants displayed strong determination, financial prudence, and effective time management, which helped them maintain their livelihood despite adversity. The study concludes that entrepreneurial resilience in Compostela is a dynamic and multidimensional process shaped by personal values, family goals, and social support. These insights highlight the importance of strengthening local entrepreneurship programs and community-based assistance for microentrepreneurs in rural areas.
